Strip foundation with basement

If it is planned to make a basement or small basement in the house, and the foundation is tape, then the foundation structure should be strengthened. It can withstand horizontal displacements that may occur under the influence of soil. Buildings can be used longer without compromising their functionality.

Features of strip foundation equipment with basement

When building basements and basements, the best constructive solution for the foundation is the option of using recessed monolithic slabs connected to concrete walls with reinforcement. However, this is not strictly a budget-friendly solution.

A basement in a house built on a strip foundation is a much cheaper option. With certain provisions, it performs its function without any problems. There are a few rules that should be followed during construction:

  • The material of walls and foundations, the depth of the basement should be calculated based on the type of soil.
  • It is recommended to reinforce the structure to strengthen the connection between the base and the wall.
  • If you plan to remove the basement later, you should make sure that the soil in the 45-degree sector under the foundation is free of voids.
  • The design of a monolithic strip foundation is preferred for houses with basements made of concrete blocks and other similar materials. When using solid or expanded clay concrete blocks, the masonry is reinforced with longitudinal reinforcements and belts laid along the top of the masonry.

Characteristics and operation of strip foundation with basement

Wall thickness is selected based on the height of the basement and the materials used. The following standard measures are taken to reduce the pressure on the structure from the ground:

  • Replace the soil adjacent to the strip foundation with the basement with a well-draining material (coarse sand or medium sand).
  • Perform parietal annular drainage.
  • Thermal insulation of the foundation and soil.

The basement should have a ventilation system. To do this, build a drainage pit from plastic containers or reinforced concrete. In some cases, it is impossible without a crushed stone pillow under the foundation slab. The ventilation system is carried to the roof by plastic pipes.

Monolithic strip foundation

A monolithic strip foundation is a reinforced concrete slab that is laid under the entire area of the building. Several layers of reinforcing mesh are laid along with the slab. Uniform pressure on the ground is achieved due to the large area of the plate. Thawing or freezing of soil does not adversely affect the structure and subsidence is minimal.

For two-story houses, a monolithic foundation with a thickness of 40 cm is used, one third of which is below the zero mark, and two thirds above it. Drain the perimeter of the foundation and lay a waterproofing material under it. First, waterproofing material is laid, then a layer of reinforcing mesh is laid, after which concrete is already poured. The formwork frame is made in the form of one solid structure, the reinforcing bars are placed in increments of up to 30 cm, and the entire formwork is rigidly fixed and fixed. Line the inside with polyethylene and roofing felt to prevent leaks. The price of a monolithic strip foundation largely depends on the type of material used.

Monolithic strip foundations are most often used in low-rise construction in the construction of buildings with concrete, brick and stone walls. Its main advantage is the fact that even if the project has a basement, it does not have to be laid very deep. It is usually possible to achieve the low cost of a monolithic strip foundation, since it is not made wide over the entire height, but only the sole is expanded.
